FAQ

Questions worth asking before you join.

Still not sure? The answer is probably below.

I am not tech-savvy. Will this work for me?

Show answerHide answer
Yes. The workflows are written for someone who has never used a chat tool. The hardest part is the connected setup: giving the tool permission to read Gmail, Outlook, Calendar, Drive, or OneDrive. We show the copy-paste version first and walk you through connecting only when it is worth it. If you can text a photo, you can run every workflow here.

Won't the chat tool hallucinate and give me wrong information?

Show answerHide answer
Sometimes, yes. Every workflow has a What It Doesn't Do section naming where to be careful. They are built for tasks where being wrong costs little, like a meal plan or a draft email you edit before sending, or where checking is easy, like calendar entries you confirm before saving. For medical, legal, and financial domains, they include explicit verification steps. We design around hallucination rather than pretend it away.

How is this different from just Googling 'AI prompts for moms'?

Show answerHide answer
A search returns generic prompts not built around running a household. The Second Shift Method™ workflows are designed around recurring mental-load work, school admin, medical coordination, budget review, child logistics, and tested against real households. Each includes a setup guide, four levels of depth, and a clear scope of what it does and does not do. No guessing whether a random prompt works.

Do I need to use it every week or will I fall behind?

Show answerHide answer
No. The free workflows are yours to use whenever, and member workflows never expire or require a streak. This is not a habit app that needs you on a schedule. Pick a workflow when a task is costing you time. Put it down. Come back when you are ready.

Do I need to be good at any of this?

Show answerHide answer
No. The workflows are pre-written. You copy them, paste them into the chat tool you already use, and review what comes back. You do not write workflows. You do not configure anything. If you have sent a text message, you can run every workflow in this library.

Can I use the free workflows forever?

Show answerHide answer
Yes. The five free workflows. The Family Profile (setup), Calendar, Meal Planning, Inbox, and Budget Review. Are free permanently. No trial period. No account required. No paywall after 30 days. If you never pay, you still have five complete workflows.

What if I only use Microsoft Copilot at work?

Show answerHide answer
Copilot works for most workflows. Every copy-paste workflow runs in Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or Perplexity, and the tool rarely matters. When a specific tool or connection helps, we say so in the workflow. No workflow requires a particular chat tool to work.

How long before I actually save time?

Show answerHide answer
The first workflow takes about 20-30 minutes to run, including reading the setup guide. Most members see the time difference by the second week. The Calendar and Inbox workflows produce the fastest visible change because the tasks are so concrete. Start with whichever task is the most repetitive drain on your week.

What if I start and then don't have time to use it?

Show answerHide answer
Nothing expires. The free workflows are always there, member workflows don't go stale, and there is no schedule to keep. Return whenever a task is costing you time. You're not behind if you skip a week. Most people use two or three workflows regularly and come back when a new category comes up.

What about privacy? I do not want my kids' information in an AI.

Show answerHide answer
Reasonable. Each workflow includes a privacy note for any task that touches sensitive information. Settings vary by tool, so for every connected workflow we tell you what data it may touch, what to avoid pasting, and where to check its privacy controls. For sensitive workflows: use initials, skip Social Security numbers and passwords, and review medical or financial outputs before acting. Never paste full credit card numbers, medical record IDs, or login credentials into any third-party tool.

Is my data safe if I cancel or never pay?

Show answerHide answer
We do not store your prompts or outputs. When you run a workflow, the conversation stays between you and the chat tool you already use, with nothing logged on our servers. The one thing we keep is the household profile you choose to fill out. It sits with our sign-in provider so the library can sort workflows by what matters to you, and includes things like whether you have kids and their age ranges. You can edit or delete it anytime, and we never sell it. If you cancel, you keep whatever you have downloaded.

What about kids? Should they be using AI?

Show answerHide answer
Different question, different answer. The workflows here are written for the adult running the operation, not the kid. There is a workflow in development for AI-assisted homework that focuses on teaching rather than answering. We will share it when we are confident in the framing.

What should I never paste into a chat tool?

Show answerHide answer
Social Security numbers, credit card or bank account numbers, medical record IDs, login credentials or passwords, insurance ID numbers, and any government ID. Redact these before pasting financial statements or medical documents. Every workflow that involves sensitive data includes a specific privacy note about what to remove first.

Can I use this without connecting Gmail or Outlook?

Show answerHide answer
Yes. Every workflow has a copy-paste version that needs no connections. You paste email content, calendar entries, or statement data manually. The connected versions are optional upgrades for households that want the tool to read their accounts directly. We explain the difference in each workflow.

Isn't this just teaching people to use AI?

Show answerHide answer
The AI tool is the easy part. The value is knowing what to ask it for. The Second Shift Method™ is built around the specific tasks of the household mental load, tested by people who run households. You don't figure out what to type. The workflows tell you.

Do I need a paid chat subscription?

Show answerHide answer
Usually no. Most copy-paste workflows run on the free versions of major chat tools. Some connected or higher-volume ones. Long PDF processing, inbox triage with email access, multi-document research. May work better on a paid plan. We tell you in each workflow what you need. The most expensive household setup is around $20 a month.

What if the chat tool I'm using changes or goes away?

Show answerHide answer
The workflows are written in plain English, not tied to one tool. When a tool changes its interface, pricing, or capabilities, we update the affected workflows and notify members. Should a tool go away entirely, the underlying instruction still works. You paste it somewhere else. We maintain the library to stay current as the tools evolve.

Is this just a list of prompts?

Show answerHide answer
No. Each workflow is a complete system: a setup guide, copy-paste prompts for each step, a 'what this returns' output example, real stories from early members, and explicit notes on what it cannot do. The prompts are the tool. The workflow tells you when to run them, what to expect, and what to do with the output.

Can I use this with the free version of ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot, or Claude?

Show answerHide answer
Yes. Every copy-paste workflow works with the free tier of any major chat tool. A few connected workflows, like the tool reading your inbox or calendar directly, may require a paid plan or a Google/Microsoft account connection. We tell you in each workflow what you need, and flag when the free version is enough.

Will my partner think I'm cheating somehow?

Show answerHide answer
No. The Method works unilaterally. You don't need your partner's buy-in to start, and many members find the outputs make it easier to show a partner what is happening. The broadcast, the calendar, the weekly forecast. You share these when you want to, not as prerequisites. The first step is running one workflow that takes something off your plate.

I have ADHD. Will this actually help, or will I forget to use it?

Show answerHide answer
We built the library with executive dysfunction in mind. Each workflow starts with a short on-ramp to lower the cost of starting. The prompts are pre-written and ready to copy and paste, and the weekly ones can be saved as recurring instructions in tools that support it. Several members have told us this is the first productivity system that did not become another thing to feel guilty about abandoning.

Will this make my marriage worse?

Show answerHide answer
Research suggests explicit, written allocation of household responsibilities improves marital satisfaction. Putting the mental load somewhere besides your head is more likely to surface what is happening than to escalate it. That said, this is not couples counseling. It helps when the load is the problem. When the relationship is the problem, please see a professional.

Is this just for moms? What about dads?

Show answerHide answer
It works for any adult carrying the cognitive load of a household. The product was built around the documented gender distribution of that load. Mothers carry 71% on average. We do not gatekeep. Fathers, guardians, partners without kids, single adults running an extended-family household: the workflows work. We write to the audience the data says is carrying the most.

What's the difference between Monthly, Annual, and Lifetime Founder?

Show answerHide answer
Three plans, same library. Monthly is $19/month, cancel anytime. Annual is $189/year, about $3.63/week, saves $39 versus paying month to month. Lifetime Founder is $397 once for our founding members, and includes two bonuses Annual does not get: the Apple Shortcuts library and a free 30-minute session with Ryan. All three plans unlock the same 47 workflows.

Why $189 a year?

Show answerHide answer
47 workflows across 5 systems. 300+ copy-paste prompts with setup steps and layer-by-layer depth. New workflows added regularly. Updates when the chat tools change so your workflows don't break. Five workflows stay free forever. The annual fee covers ongoing maintenance: keeping the library current as the chat tools, school systems, and insurance policies change, and as new high-friction tasks emerge.

What do I get with Lifetime Founder that Annual doesn't include?

Show answerHide answer
Two things on top of the full library. First, the Apple Shortcuts library: step-by-step iPhone Shortcuts tutorials for real family routines. A goodnight button that dims the lights and turns on Do Not Disturb, a geo-tag that texts your partner when you pull into the grocery store, a morning briefing that reads your day out loud, and twenty-three more. Founder-only, forever. Second, one free 30-minute session with Ryan, the founder, no expiration. The $208 gap between Annual and Lifetime is paid back the first time you use either bonus.

What is the Apple Shortcuts bonus?

Show answerHide answer
Apple Shortcuts is the automation app preloaded on every iPhone. It sits between the calculator and the compass and almost nobody opens it. The Founder bonus is twenty-six tutorials written for the way real mornings, school pickups, and bedtimes run. Each takes about five minutes to build. You tap once, your phone does five things. Founder Lifetime members get the full library plus every new shortcut later.

What is the free session with Ryan?

Show answerHide answer
One 30-minute video call with Ryan, the founder. Lifetime Founder members get one, no expiration, so you can hold it until you need it. Use it for setup help, a workflow you want built for your household, or a question about your AI stack. You book it from your account when you are ready. One per Founder.

What are the persona packs and how do they work?

Show answerHide answer
Three persona packs at $19 each, one-time purchase, no subscription. Mom the Wealth Manager: Bill Negotiation, Insurance Disputes, Tax Prep. Mom the Nurse: Healthcare Coordination, Elder Care Coordination, Family Documents Vault. Mom the Ops Coordinator: Travel, Moving with Kids, College Application. Each pack is three of the highest-impact paid workflows, grouped by the role you are already playing. Buy the pack that matches the role eating your week. If a pack is not enough, every pack purchase becomes a $19 credit toward Annual.

Can I upgrade from a pack to Annual?

Show answerHide answer
Yes. Every pack you buy becomes a $19 credit toward Annual. Buy one pack, then upgrade to Annual at $19 off. The credit stacks if you bought more than one pack. You keep the pack workflows during the upgrade, no access gap. Email hello@secondshiftmethod.com if you want help applying the credit.

How does the refund window work?

Show answerHide answer
A flat 30-day money-back guarantee on every plan. Full refund within 30 days of purchase, no questions asked, whether you are on Monthly, Annual, Lifetime Founder, or a persona pack. Email us or use the one-click refund button in your portal. Refunds land on the card in 5 to 10 business days. Read the full refund policy.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Show answerHide answer
One click. Sign in, go to Account → Billing, and click Cancel subscription. We ask one optional question: why you're leaving. That's it. No retention call, no “are you sure?” pop-ups, no hidden steps. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period, so you keep access through the date you've paid for. You can also cancel from inside your Stripe receipt email.

When am I charged? Will I get a reminder before renewal?

Show answerHide answer
Annual: $189 charged today, then $189 on the same day each year until you cancel. Monthly: $19 charged today, then $19 on the same day each month until you cancel. Lifetime Founder: $397 charged once, never again. Persona packs: $19 charged once, never again. We email you 7 days before each annual renewal so you have time to cancel. Monthly subscribers get a Stripe receipt after each charge instead of a separate reminder.

What happens to my account if I cancel?

Show answerHide answer
Your access continues until the end of your current billing period, so you lose nothing the day you click cancel. After that, your account flips back to free-tier access, with the five free workflows open forever and your saved bookmarks intact. Come back later and you can re-subscribe in 30 seconds, right where you left off. We never delete your account or your saved settings unless you ask us to.

Can I switch between Monthly and Annual?

Show answerHide answer
Yes. From Account → Billing, click Manage subscription. Stripe handles the switch and pro-rates your remaining balance. Going from Monthly to Annual saves about $39 a year.

Can I upgrade from Annual to Lifetime Founder?

Show answerHide answer
Yes, while Lifetime Founder is still open. It is our founding-member offer, and the bonuses (Apple Shortcuts, the session with Ryan) are reserved for that cohort. Email hello@secondshiftmethod.com and we'll credit your remaining Annual time toward the $397 one-time price. Lock it in while it lasts.

What is an Honorary Member?

Show answerHide answer
Comp grants are now called Honorary Member. Friends, family, press, early supporters who got the full library for free. Workflow access matches Annual. The Lifetime Founder bonuses (Apple Shortcuts library, the session with Ryan) stay reserved for paid Founders, the people who funded the build. With an Honorary Member grant, there is nothing to refund and nothing to cancel until renewal.

What if I try it and it doesn't work for me?

Show answerHide answer
Try the five free workflows first. Most members do. If they don't click, don't pay. If you did pay and the library is not for you, the 30-day money-back guarantee covers it: a full refund within 30 days of purchase, no questions asked, on every plan.

What are the 47 workflows?

Show answerHide answer
47 specific household tasks that eat your time every week: meal planning, calendar management, inbox triage, budget review, school admin, healthcare coordination, gift planning, and more. Five are free, forever. Browse all 47workflows →

How often is the library updated?

Show answerHide answer
New workflows and major updates land regularly. Chat tool changes are documented in real time inside the affected workflows. We email members when a workflow they use has been materially updated.
